Description: Caplet's works for winds are mostly early and mostly due to his friendship with the flutist Georges Barrère who founded a wind instrument society which performed these works. The two largest ones are the 25-minute quintet from 1898-99 which is brilliantly written for the ensemble but which is surpassed by Caplet in his three-movement, 16-minute Suite persane of the following year, whose exotic, modal world and abandonment of classic forms manifests the beginning of the composer's maturing process. Ensemble Initium, Quatuor Ardeo, Laurent Wagschal (piano).
