Description: The Pieces, from around 1890, are redolent of Chopin and Rachmaninov while the Sketches (based on the pictures in a gorgeously illustrated alphabet book - and they're reproduced here in full color!) are miniature tone-poems which add Russian folk music to the stylistic palette and which also refer to Lyadov and Mussorgsky piano pieces. The Tale (c.1914), which uses a narrator in live performance, vividly illustrates a Pushkin poem (and I mean vividly) about a fisherman, a magic fish and the fisherman's shrewish, greedy wife who screws everything up.
