Description: Although he claimed he came from Hungary, Hartmann was born in Philadelphia and was a child violin prodigy who managed to have a very long career which included extensive stays in Europe where he became friends with Debussy and had his Bach playing praised by Joachim. He was as avid a teacher as he was a composer and transcriber and this offering of Kreisler-like salon miniatures and Debussy reworkings provides excellent examples of both of the last two. Solomia Soroka (violin), Arthur Greene (piano).
