SÉBASTIÁN ALBERO (1722-1756): Harpsichord Sonatas Nos. 1, 2, 9-19, 22-25 and 30.
Catalogue Number: 08L032
Label: LIR Classics
Description: Appointed organist of the Spanish Royal Chapel in 1748 (while Scarlatti was harpsichord instructor to Queen Maria Barbara), Albero's single-movement sonatas are like Scarlatti and Soler in featuring elements of Spanish folk music, with the fandango and zapateado sharing the influence of Flamenco and the Spanish guitar. Albero wrote 30 sonatas, planned as two halves of a whole with the fugues of Nos. 15 and 30 (both of which are included here) rounding off each part. Gilbert Rowland (harpsichord).
