Description: New to CD are Eben's early (1955) sonata, whose four movements (lasting 24 minutes) use folk-oriented material to tell a tale suggested by the sonata's subtitle which may have to do with the composer's memories of World War II. Introduction and Dance, Quasi Mazurka and Toccata finale enclose a deep, melancholy Elegia. Sluka's sonata comes from the following year and, whether calm or tense, the cello maintains a singing, cantilena line almost throughout in a work which seems to be similarly emotionally colored. Tomás Jamník (cello), Ivo Kahánek (piano).
