JOSEPH MARX (1882-1964): 6 Pieces, World Premiere Recordings: Herbst-Legende, Carneval (Nachtstück), Canzone, Die Flur der Engel.
Catalogue Number: 08K071
Description: The major work here is the 40-minute 6 Pieces (1916) and which exhibit a kaleidoscope of contemporary stylistic influences, from the sweeping romantic melodies and decorative chromaticism of the initial Rhapsodie to the Impressionistic Albumblatt to the coloristic Arabeske, based on Scriabin's late use of complex chords. The shorter, unpublished first recordings, from manuscripts in the Austrian National Library, are further examples of Marx's description of himself as a "romantic realist". Tonya Lemoh (piano).
