Description: The composer pursued studies in both classical and jazz music at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in his native Leningrad, so he comes to his crossover style of composing naturally. While the Jazz Suite adds drums and double bass to the orchestra and exhibits Raykhelson's popular style at its most infectiously catchy, the other works are more strictly "classical" in style although, as the notes point out, the composer still uses subtleties in harmony and rhythm which spring from jazz. Elena Revich (violin), Igor Butman (sax), Moscow Soloists; Yuri Bashmet (viola).
