Description: Known, if at all, for his intensive collecting of (mostly) Piedmontese folk songs in the first decade of the 20th century, Sinigaglia also wrote several Dvorákian orchestral works derived from these folk sources. He studied privately with Dvorák (and earlier with Brahms pupil Eusebius Mandyczewski) and was equally adept at the art song to which this collection is devoted. A true chameleon, Sinigaglia was obviously able to sink completely into the requisite style: the mélodie when setting French texts and the Lied when German. So in the German tradition could this composer get, that the ten or so German settings here would make for good parlor "guess the composer" games. German, Italian, French texts. Anja Kampe (soprano), Massimiliano Génot (piano).
