FRANZ LACHNER (1803-1890): Requiem in F Minor, Op. 146.
Catalogue Number: 08J047
Description: Composed for the Mozart centenary in 1856, Lachner's only work in this genre is predominantly quiet and introverted, punctuated by drama only when the texts absolutely demand it (the Confutatis, with reminiscences of Mozart's own requiem). The Agnus Dei of Beethoven's Missa solemnis is also recalled in Lachner's own work in the same place, while viola figurations surround the chorus in the Lacrimosa, whose intimacy better characterizes the work as a whole. Marina Ulewicz, Ruby Hughes (sopranos), Roxana Constantinescu (alto), Colin Balzer, Gerhard Werlitz (tenors), Günther Papendell (bass), Augsburg Chamber Soloists; Hermann Meyer. SACD hybrid.
