Description: Eduard's son is catching up to dad in terms of CDs devoted entirely to him! A formidable pianist, Franck's talent and technique are on display in the alternately fiery and passionate and melancholy Fantasy - originally three separate works by that name which he had published together in 1896, each of which is preceded by a Romantic quote from Goethe. There is no end of lovely melody in the 1901 A major quartet. These are richly Romantic tunes which Brahms wouldn't have been ashamed of writing (50 years before, but still...). The odd little nine-minute E major quartet of 1905 is in one-movement but four distinct sections - a distillation of its 33-minute long big brother. Christoph Schikedanz (violin), Marius Nichiteanu (viola), Mathias Beyer-Karlshoj (cello), Bernhard Fograscher (piano). SACD hybrid. NOTE: Audite's distributor is out of this title and did not fill our order. It will be automatically back-ordered.
