Description: The work of a young man, Gernsheim’s first sonata has a Mendelssohnian quality while the other two are late works from 1906 and 1914. No. 2 opens with a nod to Brahms whose ten-year death anniversary it was at the time, but there is increasing agitation and many swings of dynamic and tempo throughout, a description which fits the Third as well - no nostalgic musings for this old man!
