Description: You know what Piazzolla sounds like, so no need to waste space on him. We are told little about Szmerek other than that he started off writing “songs for cabaret performance” and “light music” and nothing about when these two works were written. What we can tell you is that the nine-minute Fantasy sounds a lot like Piazzolla but not the 15-minute concerto. That, especially its first movement, could be a soundtrack to a late 60s French-Italian romantic adventure film starring Terence Stamp or Marcello Mastroianni and Monica Vitti. I listened to it twice in immediate succession with the same idiotic grin on my face. Elwira Śliwkiewicz-Cisak (accordion), Jakub Niedoborek (guitar), Lublin Chamber Orchestra; Piotr Wijatkowski.
