GIUSEPPE MARTUCCI (1856-1809): Piano Trios No. 1 in C, Op. 59 and No. 2 in E Flat, Op. 62
Catalogue Number: 07R008
Description: Dating from 1877 and 1878, these two full-sized (34 and 41 minutes respectively) trios are further evidence of Martucci’s ability to ply a course through Austro-German Romanticism while still allowing flashes of Italian operatic lyricism to show through. The latter happens primarily in the slow movements while the two first movements are as Brahmsian as anything Heinrich von Herzogenberg wrote and there’s a real Mendelssohnian sparkle in the first trio’s scherzo. Wonderful stuff and not recorded since the year before we took over Records International (1996). Trio Vega.
