Description: Mena's second orchestral disc for Chandos of Turina's music is anchored by the 37-minute Canto, a 1926 work which began life the year before as a four-song piece for soprano and piano. In order to unify the work, Turina added three orchestal sections: a prelude, Noche de Feria and a final Ofrenda. A heartfelt tribute to the city by its most famous composer and poet of the day. Unlike the only other modern recording which we offered just under four years ago (on Hännsler Classic - 09M057), this one comes not only with a native Spanish soprano but also with texts and translatios. María Espada (soprano), Martin Roscoe (piano), BBC Philharmonic; Juanjo Mena.
