Description: The first four of Roentgen's 16 string trios are generally vivacious, high-spirited works with the occasional mysterious or melancholy slow movement. Dutch folk songs appear quite frequently and No. 2 uses a motif from Dvorák's Violin Concerto to great effect. Three of them were written in 1918 and 1919 at his vacation cottage on the North Sea and were made to be played by himself and two of his sons, mostly explaining their easy melodic flow and the suggestion that these were recreational music but at a professional level.
