Description: The Parry material is well-known but the Stanford is a World Premiere Recording.  Written in 1892 to a commission by a composer named Thomas Wingham (1846-1893 and quite famous in his day, author of several Catholic choral/orchestral liturgical works as well as four symphonies and six concert overtures - hello, Dutton Epoch???), Parry showed G.B. Shaw, who heard of the commission and was curious about the question, what kind of requiem could be written by an Irish Protestant. One which fits seamlessly into the Viennese tradition of the genre, compactly rendered in 36 often majestic minutes.
