Description: We had one of Fuga's cello sonatas just three months ago (05P012) which rather stood out among works by Petrassi and Cilea. Here are all three of his violin sonatas, dating from 1939, 1972 and 1989) and they give more evidence of a poetic, intensely communicative spirit. It is apparently characteristic of Fuga that, of the ten movements of these sonatas, seven of them are slow, offering endless opportunities for introspection, melancholy and elegiac lyricism. Fuga called himself a "Romantic survivor" and described the Italian avant-garde of his day as "musical clownery" - ironic since, on his mother's side, he is related to the artistic family which produced Luigi Nono - and every note of these pieces testifies to that self-description. Mauro Totorelli, Alessandro Milani, Sergio Lamberto (violin, in order above), Giacomo Fuga (piano).
