Description: Three generations of the Koppel family provide three different kinds of music for wind quintet. Father Herman's 1932 work is a brief, nine-minute piece inspired by Carl Nielsen's quintet of just ten years before. Benjamin's (2002) is inspired by commedia dell'arte figures, with a capricious Harlequin first movement followed by a melancholy Pierrot slow movement and rounded off with a Tarentella finale. Anders' 2000 single-movement work is inspired by the manic and naivistic American comic strip character of the 1910s, 20s and 30s and really gives each player a virtuosic work-out; the 15-minute work starts and ends slow but Krazy Kat dominates the middle.
