Description: The latest in this series brings the first recordings of the 1906 Prelude, a piece which will have you searching for a vein to open, if you can see through your tears, and the first complete recording of the 20-minute, four-piece suite "Crimean Sketches" of 1908, full of long, singing melodies and virtuosic, orchestral pianism. We've had the 1932 set of waltzes and the 1940 Lyrica Nova, four beautiful lyrical outpourings from the depths of wartime despair and dislocation, on the Dutch trio of double-disc releases four years ago while the Morceaux (also from 1906 and also with a deeply despairing piece but also with a humorous Gavotte-Caprice), was on Stephen Coombs' Hyperion recording. Jouni Somero (piano).
