Description: In which you get to choose whether Mason (1912-15) or Tovey (1900) sounds more like Brahms, even though the former wrote his while he was studying with D'Indy. Gorgeous stuff, full of lovely melodies, sometimes wistful and autumnal, sometimes bright and vigorous (a strikingly scherzo-like second movement from Mason is a bit of a surprise). Swiss composer Moeschinger's eight-minute Sonatina is also quite tonal and approachable but no one is buying this for a clarinet/piano version of a Bach oboe sonata, right? Stephan Siegenthaler (clarinet), Konstantin Lifschitz (piano).
