PIETRO LOCATELLI (1695-1764): 24 Capricii for Solo Violin.

Description: These pieces originally belonged to Locatelli's big L'arte del violino (two different recordings of this have been issued, one during our stewarship of RI: 03E020) but, after the composer's death, took on a life of their own. Their varied bowing techniques (detached, staccato, spiccato, mixed, slurred staccato, etc.) and fiendish left-hand difficulties (crossovers, extensions, finger stretches, changes of position, with a 17th position required at a time when contemporary treatises speak only of seven) have assured them a place among worshippers of virtuosity.
