JAN VRIEND (b.1938): Jets d'Orgue.
Catalogue Number: 07N089
Description: Written between 1986 and 1991, this is an unabashed celebration of organ sound. As the composer says, "a musical celebration of the acoustic and technological riches of large organs in large spaces", and its title, from the French jets d'eau, "is based on a vision of the organ as a fountain of sounds: thousands of pipes spray their sounds through the cast space of a cathedral in an orgy of colours and patterns, densities and velocities, variations and combinations." Tunes and motifs there aren't. Spectacular sounds and organ color from "Erupting Volcano" to "Delicate Ice Crystal" (my terms) are the currency of this virtuosic composition. Jan Hage (organ of St. Bavo, Haarlem, Netherlands).
