Description: Finnish organ professionalism only began around 1910 and Maasalo's sonata from 1913 is the first surviving Finnish organ sonata (Oskar Merikanto's is lost). This and Raitio's shorter pieces have plenty of French influence, Impressionism especially in Raitio's (Maasalo studied for a period with Gigout) while Granlund's somewhat more muscular sonata of 1917/20 shows the influences of the German school (he studied in Leipzig). Ville Urponen (organ of St. Martin's Church, Turku).
