Description: A 40-minute four-movement sonata from 1900-01 and a single-movement 31-minute piano quintet from 1907-08 about triple what we have on disc from this French composer now. The sonata is still a youthful work and firmly in the tradition of Franck, Lekeu, Vierne, etc., with no trace of impressionism while the more mature quintet (dedicated to Enescu), like a big tone poem connected by a dense network of cyclic motifs, is exactly contemporary with Paul Le Flem's work for the same instrumentation, and, like the latter, one which might be described as "Celtic Impressionism". Marie-Josèphe Jude (piano), Quatuor Louvigny.
