Description: The 1908 concerto first appeared in Hyperion's Romantic Piano Concerto series 16 years ago and was aptly described in a Gramophone review as "Grand, Lisztian ambitions are fulfilled and embellished in writing of the most ferocious intricacy and the tarantella finale, in particular, throws everything at the pianist, seemingly simultaneously." Its disc-mates here are the seven-minute overture to Scharwenka's only opera, an arrangement of the second movement of his cello sonata and three Polish National Dances. The tray-card mistakenly assigns all of them to Op. 3 when their 25-number total extends across nine opus numbers (and I can't supply the opus numbers for Nos. 8 and 15). François Xavier Poizat (piano), Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra; Lukasz Borowicz.
