Description: World Premiere Recording of the 1903 violin concerto, the first of four works by Respighi for violin and orchestra. The first two movements were completed while the third exists only partially and in a piano reduction. The work is gently lyrical and, as always, conscious of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque eras although not to the extent of the Concerto all'antica or the Concerto gregoriano. (A recording of the first two movements was released in late 1995 by Bongiovanni, now out-of-print.) The Suite (1902) is a six-movement work in neo-baroque style (not to be confused with the Suite in E for Strings, P. 51, recorded back in 1992 by Marco Polo and recently reissued on Naxos) which looks ahead to the Ancient Airs and Dances suites. Laura Marzadori (violin), Chamber Orchestra of New York "Ottorino Respighi"; Salvatore Di Vittorio.
