FRANZ XAVER RICHTER (1709-1789): 6 Grandes Symphonies (Nos. 7-12. Set 2).
Catalogue Number: 07L028
Description: Published as part of a twelve-symphony set in Paris in 1744 (before Richter took up his position at Mannheim), these works are still firmly rooted in the baroque tradition with fast movements of a driving intensity with frequent contrapuntal devices and richly expressive slow movements. However, one can also see the concentrated and intense style of Franz Beck as owing much more to Richter than to Beck's teacher Stamitz. In the old numbering system, these are: 4, 5, 27, 59, 69 and 82. The previous volume came out in August 2007 (08J034). Helsinki Baroque Orchestra; Aapo Häkkinen.
