Description: Goltz wrote these works - his complete works for solo piano (a concerto was lost during the war and he was working on a symphony when Hitler attacked the Soviet Union) - during his six-year period of study at the Leningrad Conservatory, 1934-40. He joined the Baltic fleet after the war started in mid-1941 and was killed six months into the seige of Leningrad. The style is conservative: Rachmaninov and Scriabin rather than Shostakovich or Prokofiev and sometimes the legendary aspect of Medtner's skazki seem to haunt an indivdual prelude or two. Another great "what if" case to ponder. Sergei Podobedov (piano).
