Description: The Concertino dates from 1948 when Gál was just becoming re-established in Edinburgh after the turmoils of the war (where he had to spend years in an "enemy alien" - and he was a Jew! - internment camp). It has a smooth, unruffled mien, though, with a contrapuntal slow movement for organ alone which tells of Gál's life-long absorption with the music of Bach. Bach is the main point of departure also for the 14-minute Toccata of 1928 while the earlier (1923) religious songs are striking for their simplicity and purity of expression. The remaining two works, both from 1956, are much smaller in scale and affect. German-English texts. István Mátyás (organ of Hofburgkapelle,Vienna), Adrineh Simonian (soprano), David Pennetzdorger (cello), Orchester Wiener Akademie; Martin Haselböck.
