Description: Joachim, the Hungarian violinist, had experience of the gypsy style ingrained in him and it made him the ideal arranger of Brahms' two-piano Hungarian Dances for violin. His own set of variations was premiered in 1881 but may have been composed much earlier. A strong Hungarian accent colors the introduction but is less evident in the succeeding 18 variations and finale (a total of just under 14 minutes in all). Hagai Shaham (violin), Arnon Erez (piano).
