Description: Born in the Walloon area of what is now Belgium, Walckiers had a long career as composer, soloist and pedagogue in Paris. There are not many quartets around for four flutes and these two are not showpieces by any means. Although you'll notice the operatic presence of Massenet, Rossini and Weber in the background, these are fully-formed, four movement works (the Op. 46 lasts over half an hour) which sound as if they are clever transcriptions of orchestral symphonies, such are the textures Walckiers manages and weaves - and the same goes for the 27-minute trio where the presence of the violin and viola makes the symphonic comparison even easier. TeTraVERSI Flute Quartet, Zsolt Kalló (violin), Ditta Rohmann (cello), Gergely Ittzés (flute).
