Description: The incidental music to Richard II dates from 1944 and was commissioned by the BBC Drama Department for a radio play which was never performed. Consisting of 34 numbers (around 27 minutes), many of them brief fanfares, entrances and exits, have an affinity with the several film scores which VW also worked on during the war and shortly thereafter; detailed notes describe the stage action for the music. The other rarity is the orchestration of the four brief movements of a suite, lasting just over seven minutes, written c. 1913 for the French flutist Louis Fleury. Texts included. Nadège Rochat (cello), Anna Noakes (flute), Roderick Williams (baritone), Royal Scottish National Orchestra; Martin Yates.
