Description: Apparently never performed before, the cello concerto of 1934 has a martial main subject in its first movement, a Brucknerian slow movement and a finale that recalls Mahler until it suddenly breaks into an alla Italiana. Steeped in Brahms, the sonata dates from 1923 and the short pieces are from Weigl’s period in the U.S.A. Raphael Wallfisch (cello), Konzerthaus Orchestra Berlin; Nicholas Milton, John York (piano), Edward Rushton (piano - sonata).
