Description: Pärt sets a text by Clemens Brentano in a simple melodic structure of repeating phrases over an accompaniment based on various presentations of a single chord. Bodorová's Ama me consists of three songs in a very neo-romantic, somewhat folk-influenced style emphasizing flowing melody over a tonal accompaniment richly scored for the distinctive sonority of the harp, which complements the voice very well. Her Psalms - texts from the Old Testament - are more austere, hymnlike, but just as tonal, the triumphant ending not so far from Janačék's Glagolitic Mass. Eben's 'Loveless Songs set texts by poets of four nationalities, all sharing a melancholy, despairing mood. The viola weaves counterpoint with the voice as a duo partner in the same register, mirroring the emotions of the text and producing tonal, occasionally dissonant, harmony. Czech, German, Russian (Cyrillic), Italian-English texts. Eva Garajová (mezzo), Ludmila Peterková, Jana Lahodná, Marek Švejkar (clarinets), Jitka Hosprová (viola), Jaroslav Sveceny (violin), Katerina Englichová (harp), Zemlinsky Quartet.
