FRIEDRICH KUHLAU (1786-1832): Violin Sonatas in F, in A Minor and in C, Op. 79, Nos. 1-3, for Piano Four-Hands: Allegro pathétique, Op. 123 and Adagio e Rondo, Op. 124.
Catalogue Number: 06R030
Label: Brilliant Classics
Description: All three sonatas, Kuhlau’s last of five total and written in 1826, are melodically fresh, dramatically imposing works: the first and third are largely extrovert, whereas the second is thoughtful and intimate in character. The coupling is of late and brilliant works for piano four-hands which may reveal the influence of Schubert, so unconventional is their form, so bold the evocation of Romantic sonorities on the keyboard. Giorgio Leonida Tosi (violin), Paolo Porto (1830 Stein fortepiano), Frontini-Porto Piano Duo.
