JOHN JONES (1728-1796): 8 Sets of Lessons for the Harpsichord.
Catalogue Number: 06R026
Reference: GC 921808
Description: Another English musician extinguished by Handel’s shadow (and not to be confused with his coeval Richard Jones whose two-disc set of Lessons from this label and this performer was released in 2010), Jones was organist for three major London churches (all at the same time) for almost 50 years. Many of his most famous colleagues subscribed to the publication of these Lessons in 1754 which not only have their Handelian moments but also traces of Domenico Scarlatti, CPE Bach and Jacques Duphly. Jones plainly was widely-“read” and was fresh and innovative, expressing the whole range of emotions in these harpsichord pieces. 2 CDs. Mitzi Meyerson (harpsichord).
