Description: 176 minutes of studies in Hauer's twelve-tone system, dating from 1921/22. It's up to the performer what instrument to use as the title of the manuscript lists all three as choices so Schleiermacher uses the piano for 19, the harmonium for 21 and the celesta for the rest. Generally, the right hand plays the succession of meandering tone sequences (the "melody") and the left accompanies with chords and sometimes there are polyphonic approaches. The effect can be hypnotic. Hauer says he composed these pieces in an "ecstasy of fulfilment" of his tonal discovery. 3 CDs. Steffen Schleiermacher (piano, celesta, harmonium).
