Description: The third volume of this series brings works written right after World War II. Rubbra (1946) is characteristically concerned with eternal verities, his continually developing counterpoint founded in 16th century polyphony. Rawsthorne's is the shortest at only 15 minutes (1948), a battle between lament and fretful business won by the former and Moeran's, the best-known of the three (1945-47), mostly dark and moody with flashes of completely assimilated Irish folk music. Paul Watkins (cello), Huw Watkins (piano).
