Description: The epoch-making Volumina (1962), which helped pull the organ, rather lately, into the world of modern music, has been recorded a few times before but never on an organ like this one, designed specifically to do all the impossible things Ligeti dreamed of but never hoped to see actually realized (it functions now also as an invitation for composers to write new works for it). And, in addition, we have two premiere recordings: the organist's arrangement of the 11-piece piano work Musica ricercata of 1951-53, which offers many often quiet and gentle sounds from the organ's repertoire of sound, and his own composition Sprachsignale, a three-movement piece of 22 minutes which takes as its starting point Ligeti's brief electronic piece Artikulation, which used fragments of sound to mimic a human conversation.
