Description: Das Konzert is a fully-fledged, 25-minute flute concerto, a serious and significant contribution to the genre. Being Kagel, of course, free-ranging polystylism is part of the vocabulary, alongside a slightly subversive sense of the experimental - but basically the piece is a very effective idealized romantic concerto seen through postmodern eyes. The two versions of Phantasiestück explore Schumannesque Romanticism, again refracted through the prism of what has happened to music since, but the keyslaps and mild extended techniques just add color and texture to what could almost be a fantasia on ideas that Schumann might have had.
