Description: Collectors of conservative English chamber music will want this for the world premiere recordings of Fiske's sonata (1941) and of Hamilton's set of evocative Nocturnes of 1951. Fiske was a musicologist, author, broadcaster and amateur composer and his sonata has more than a bit of Howells, Vaughan Williams and the "pastoral school" in it while Hamilton's three miniatures (Adagio mistico, Allegro diabolico and Lento tranquillo) brilliantly capture three diverse moods in three to four minutes each. Nicholas Cox (clarinet), Ian Buckle (piano).
