Description: For 22 years, Zádor, a student of Richard Heuberger and Max Reger who left Austria after the Nazi Anschluss, was the orchestrator for Miklós Rózsa's film scores. All the while, though, he kept writing his own concert music (including four symphonies). Strongly tonal and highly contrapuntal in all his works, Zádor adds extra colorful Hungarian elements in the Capriccio (1934, premiered by Schuricht) and Rhapsody (1940) while his Contrasts (1963, premiered by Ormandy) is practically a five-movement "concerto for orchestra", evoking film noir and Mahler in two of them.
