Description: "Magician Orchestrator" is the title of this release which concentrates on the little-known fact that Koechlin got a lot of requests to finish or to entirely orchestrate other composers' music. Debussy's Khamma is the only well-known item here. The five-minute Sur les Flots is the orchestration of a song by an American female pupil; the rest are world premiere recordings: the seven-movement version of Fauré's Pelleas was for a London performance of 1898, the Schubert for the Ballets Russes in 1933 (in an updated, Stravinskian-balletic style) and the Chabrier for conductor Albert Wolff in 1924 in which Koechlin tried to give the music "a French coloring" not found in the older orchestration by Felix Mottl.
