Description: This album is a useful reminder that, whatever else we may think of when we hear Parker's name, his first instrument was the organ and he studied in Munich with Rheinberger who entrusted the premiere of his first organ concerto to the 20-year-old American virtuoso. Parker's organ œuvre consists of a concerto, the sonata recorded here and five other suites of character pieces in addition to these, his last two (from 1908 and 1910). His polyphonic thinking, cantabile melodies and colorful harmonies led some to regard him as "the American César Franck". Rudolf Innig (Kuhn organ of Osnabrück Cathedral).
