Description: Now this is weird: the 1820 Concerto bergamasco was written for a single performer who played all four instruments, one per movement in the order above but with all going during the variation finale and the piccolo only coming in at the very end. Mayr also quotes a Beethoven piano concerto and other Classical works several times in the first movement for, uh, why? The keyboard concerto, much shorter at 16 minutes, is closer stylistically to Haydn even though it was probably composed around 1800 while the also oddly-instrumented Trio is a 12-minute, single-movement piece also from aroudn 1820. Natalie Schwaabe (flute, piccolo), Andrea Steinberg (clarinet, basset horn), Antonio Spiller, Yi Li, David van Dijk (violins), Bavarian Classical Players; Franz Hauk (harpsichord).
