Description: One of the specialities of this Australian composer, teacher and pianist is the Russian avant-garde (and Anton Rubinstein is another), so this compendium of rare repertoire from those fabulous years of artistic ferment and freedom from 1900 to 1929 in Russia and in the new Soviet Union comes from someone who has devoted years of research to it. The massive 51-minute Rubinstein Variations are performed live on an 8-ft. Rönisch piano commissioned for the 1880 Great Melbourne Exhibition; the remainder are studio recordings on a modern Steinway. 2 CDs. Larry Sitsky (piano).
