JEAN-PHILIPPE RAMEAU (1683-1764): Excerpts from the operas Zaïs and Zoroastre.
Catalogue Number: 06K024
Description: This 67-minute disc juxtaposes polar opposites which Rameau wrote at the same time in 1748: the heavenly, dreamy, conflict-free Zaïs (which has no complete recording), whose characters are either gods or demi-gods and the brutal, cruel and savage Zoroastre (which has two full-length recordings out already). Conductor Haas' notes derive Rameau's philosophy and uniqueness from his approach to the opposed scenarios. French-English texts. Eugènie Warnier (soprano), Arnaud Richard (bass), Ausonia; Frédérick Haas.
