Description: Magin's works are often based on national Polish elements (the Petite Suite is a set of Polish dances) and his language is derived from Szymanowski, Bartók and the French post-impressionists, often pushing the bounds of tonality but always remaining approachable. Ranging from thoughtful to virtuosic - often in the same piece, as in the first sonata of 1968 where slow nostalgia and violent frenzy succeed each other almost throughout while the fourth (1997) pushes the pianist's stamina to the limit, these pieces should please piano collectors in general and Polish music collectors in particular.
