Description: This is not only a "English Flute Music" disc, it's also a kind of "period instrument" disc since Redgate plays an English wooden flute, less sharp and more mellow-sounding, of the type that really didn't go out of use in the UK until the 1950s. Head and Bowen's works were written for Gareth Morris (principal in the Philharmonia), who taught the current soloist; German wrote his for Griffith and Tavener for the soloist, so we have a kind of family tree of English flute compositon and performance here also. Celia Redgate (flute), Michael Dussek (piano).
