Description: The 1887 Irish worked genuine folk tunes into a body of music still firmly in the Austro-Germanic tradition. Dedicated to the memory of George Frederick Watts (1817-1904), the sixth of 1905 is not programmatic but Stanford noted several of Watts' paintings which "suggested" movements of the work: "Physical Energy", "Love and Death", "Love and Life" and "Good luck to your fishing" (the trio of the scherzo; the "Love", "Life" and "Death" motifs are all reworked in the finale). Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra; David Lloyd-Jones.
